Running races and other types of running are often compared with jogging by the beginners. Most of the people around the world are likely in this misconception about running races or jogging and since they perceive jogging as a slow form of running. The most well accepted definition of running was given by late Dr. George Sheehan in his best- selling book in 1970. According to Dr. Sheehan, the major difference is characterized by an ending line on the racing ground. In addition, the person who is motivated and enjoys the course with proper training for an organized running race, he is a runner.

Casual Running

The major part of runners does it casually in order to keep their health fit, both physically and mentally. The social aspect of running is also important regarding this aspect. Similar to running races, casual running does not require any sort of equipments for practicing and it can be done almost anywhere. It is never too late to initiate running, as we can see people of 50s, 60s, and even 70s have started it.

Treadmill Running

The treadmill running is typically an easier form of running compared to open-air running and it is completely different from running races as well. Actually Treadmill running is an alternative to open-air running in the bad weather. The treadmill running allow the practicing runners in developing their pace, resistance and inclination towards outdoor running races. Treadmill running also varies their workouts in order to refrain from the bad effects of boredom.

Racing

To some runners the excitement of competition has simply no alternative. They feel thrilled when they are eligible to participate in road races. The range of running races is varied from 5kms to marathons. The majority of people participating in running races do not come to receive the position only, but they prefer to put a personal goal and accomplish it. Many ex-coach potatoes have developed into enthusiastic on the sports after working out for their initial running races.

Trail Running

Trail running is one of the extraordinary options for those who like to take pleasure in peaceful atmosphere and scenery during exercising. Trail running generally obtains set on climbing trails of varying landscape, from mountains to deserts. Trail running is distinctly characterized from running races and the trail exercisers often find themselves in scrambling up rocks to sidestepping roots. They also exercise by running through streams. Trail runners may find themselves in traversing up steep hills. For who likes to contend, trail races go on throughout the territory.
