For those who want to establish eating habits that are healthy, use of the food pyramid is recommended since it will provide an easy way to achieve your goals, and the first such food pyramid came to be formed in the sixties as a way of meeting the needs of those with heart diseases, and also to provide information to the public as to how to remain in good health.

Different Aspects

You will find that the food pyramid has a number of aspects to it and each aspect can help analyze a person’s food habits and how to make the necessary changes so that your eating habits remain healthy. So, you will find that at the very bottom of the food pyramid is found foods such as breads and also grains, and more particularly you would need to consume on a daily basis a diet which has six to eleven servings of breads and also grain.

In addition, you must also pay attention to the type of grain consumed and it is recommended to have fifty percent of the breads and grains in the form of whole grain including things such as brown rice and bread, whole wheat pasta and maybe even oatmeal. Once these food items have been identified at the base of the food pyramid, there are then many different variations as to the rest of the food stuffs you need to consume.

Thus, you may want to include having fruits and vegetables in one group, while there are some that prefer to have them in two groups and it is also wise to include two or three servings of vegetables on a daily basis. In fact, as far as vegetables in your food pyramid is concerned there are five groups that include dark greens (broccoli and spinach), orange (sweet potatoes and pumpkins), dry beans and peas (navy beans, lentils, kidney beans and tofu), starchy vegetables (corn, green peas and potatoes) and other vegetables that include cucumbers, cabbage, tomatoes and eggplants.

On the other hand, the food pyramid treats fruits differently and recommends consuming a cup of fruit or even fruit juice as well as one or two servings per day of different fruits that should be sufficient to stay healthy. Next comes milk and dairy sections which is followed by meat and beans groups and the top of the food pyramid is where you will find oils and also fats.

Using the food pyramid, you will find that you have certain guidelines as to how to eat healthy food and also gets sufficient nutritious content, and though servings depend on age and body type as well as activities performed, it is still an ideal aid to help you develop the correct pattern with regard to healthy food habits.
